My Kaiju's primary function is to disrupt the worlds shipping infrastructure and navy. It turtles its head up to become a literal torpedo to sink ships, the sleek and streamlined design is contrary to usual Kaiju, because it has a different function than usual Kaiju. Slightly smaller than your average Kaiju, in comparison to Godzilla it would be about 1/2 as large. It also has a land mode, but is 95% aquatic. Landmode is clumsy and awkward, the tail splits like a zipper and it flops around, awkwardly slapping small cities into rubble.
Just some animal evolutionary ideas I had stewing. “What if hippos were faster?” Kind of a fusion of hippo, walrus and whale. With some hydrodynamic bone portrusions, for science!
I sometimes approach creature design from a 3D perspective first. I mock up a basic model, toss some textures on it, render out some basic lighting and color bases, and then finish the bejezzus out of it in photoshop. I can approach from a purely 2D standpoint, but I have found that people generally enjoy seeing the 3D model.
